What's shown here is a whole hog! The amount of meat you take home averages 75-80% of hanging weight due to losses during the butchering process.
We raise our hogs on 2 - 3 acre plots that are allowed rest time between rotation. Plots are forested with lots of natural forage. We also plant rye grass and beets in heavily trafficked areas to help regrowth and land repair. We supplement their foraging with locally sourced non-GMO grains. We occasionally have extra organic apples and squash from our garden that they get to enjoy as well.
We raise old heritage breeds. We have Hampshire, Duroc, Berkshire, Old Spot and Large Black Crosses. We have chosen these old-line genetics because they know how to forage and live off the land. We also do not have to assist in the birthing processes. These old lines know how to raise their young the way it should be, without human intervention. While we love to watch, no assistance needed!!
Never! We want our product to be well controlled and therefore do not feed our pigs any table scraps or anything that's not listed above.
We've worked with a professional mobile slaughter, Frontier Mobile Slaughter for years! They come to our farm and humanely slaughter the animal then, in their mobile meat locker, transports to clean pork to Mountain Stream Meat Co. for processing.
Mountain Stream Meats is always our first choice for processsing all your tasty pork.
